Friday is the last night of Chanukah, and I have a reservation at the Lee Street Inn which happens to be on the way to Molly's parents' house in WV. She thinks we're not leaving until Saturday morning...surprise! :D I also have saved the best Chanukah present for last: everything she needs to take up dyeing yarn! Needless to say, there are still some Christmas presents to be opened in West Virginia, but I'll save those for another time. It's time for Candles, dinner, and bread.

Oh, I am so devious...
Okay, here's the top-secret, Molly-never-checks-this-blog-so-I-think-it's-safe-to-do-this update.
Tonight I'm starting some no-knead bread, so that it will have 18 hours to rest before I come home and bake it Thursday night, so Molly has fresh bread for Yule on Thursday. Thursday is, obviously our Yule celebration, and many gifts will change hands. The best present of the day? I think it might be this ring. I measured all her fingers and her hand, telling her I was trying to figure out how much yarn I needed to make her a pair of Knucks. I lied. I already know how much yarn I need for Knucks. I was measuring so I could figure out her ring size.

Chanukah blessings
Chanukah is clicking along, making a very slow recovery from the first few nights, which all somehow ended with one or both of us crying because Ziva never got to see (and probably sniff) Chanukah candles or curl up under the Yule tree.
The best gift I've gotten so far is the hour or so after Spot and Julia finished slowly sliding off of their respective laps (mine "belongs" to Spot, and Molly's to Julia) to land in a cat pile where they were snuggled up to each other and to each of us. Soo super cute--the first time they've ever been so relaxed in each other's presence. And they were TOUCHING! Obviously, this was some sort of Chanukah miracle! Very exciting.
Three nights left, one of which is Yule, and I have some really fun plans in the works. Call it "Megan's desperate bid to save the holidays." I'd let you in on them in this post, but then Molly would know what my devious plans are, so of course I can't post them yet. The last day of Chanukah, we're off to see thewizard in-laws.

I apologize for not posting a bunch of happy stuff before this.
I took Ziva to the vet today because she has a cold and hasn't been eating well.
Turns out that yes, she has a cold. But Ziva almost certainly, but not 100%, has FIP. I have to decide whether to run $300 of tests on her, or if the evidence of the straw-coloured, thick fluid (classically consistent with FIP, but as I said, not 100%) is enough to indicate that she has FIP and is too sick to save. If it's not FIP, it could be either liver cancer, a liver obstruction, or a massive infection. Fluid is leaking into her chest as well. Our poor little girl is so sick, she doesn't want to walk around or play. She just wants to be left on her blanket to rest. I have to decide this by 5 today, so I can let the vet know whether to mail the sample to the lab or not.
Not fair. Not fair at all.
How am I supposed to make this decision?
EDIT - 6:30pm: Thanks to everyone for the kind comments. It turns out I didn't get to make a decision. When I checked on Ziva at 5, she hadn't moved at all and didn't want to move around or even stand up. When I patted her or picked her up, she cried. We took her to the vet for the last time tonight. When she was gone the vet checked her belly and that she was sure it was FIP, and that she was glad we were able to get her in tonight, because she was in really bad shape. So I guess we did the right thing. It just bites.

Knit, Knit, Knitty.
The new Knitty is out, and I think it may be the best one yet. I want
this sweater for myself.
I also desperately need
mittens (in some different colours), and
socks!
Oooh, and
spiffy napkin rings for my in-laws!
Now if I could only afford to buy yarn...
*sigh*
