Time for posting here is short, so, inspired by Sheri I thought I'd share the only knitting tip I have that I think may be useful and which hasn't been printed in every knitting book known to knitterkind. So here goes.
The thought of having several different sizes of each kind of circular needle plus a set of dpns drove me crazy. I want to spend my money on yarn, not needles!
So I taught myself the magic loop method, and from then to now, whenever I need a new size needle, I buy a set of either 32" or 40" circular addis. I can use them on socks and baby hats on up to sweaters, shawls, and even afghans. One set of circs will do it all!
Bonus: It keeps kitties from leaving tooth prints (metal needles don't really care about kitty teeth) AND it keeps me from losing or breaking one needle and thereby rendering the set useless.
